Blockchain will revolutionise and redefine logistics

Blockchain adoption in the world of logistics and supply chain: It’s not if, but when and how fast.

There is a need to classify possible applications and provide a framework to identify blockchain opportunities in the supply chain and logistics industry. Helping managers to systematically assess where to start building organisational capabilities in order to successfully adopt and deploy blockchain-based technology.

In shipping, for example, a bill of lading for cargo shipments has traditionally been paper based, which requires multiple sign-offs by inspectors and receivers before goods can be delivered. It’s a lengthy administrative process, even when the system is electronic.

Currently Blockchain solutions are being developed which will help manage and track the paper trail of tens of millions of shipping containers across the world by digitizing the supply chain process. It’s an example how in the end the deployment of blockchain will provide a turn-key application ecosystem for global supply chain logistics.

However, the future potential of such ecosystem platforms will rest upon collaboration from the different actors in these supply chains to clearly identify the problems and co-create applications that solve the collective challenges they are facing today.

Any type of a logistics business case – be it marine, air, or land-based, for connecting supply chains will be very strong. This conference brings technology and logistics together, exploring ways and methods how to give customers control of rates, operations, financing, and documentation.

Real use cases will show how the intersection of old world business models and trusted new world technology solutions will spawn a new digital marketplace, creating new revenue streams and business models.
